Industry Partners

Alumni Seminar PanelInnovative Resource Management, a local company that repurposes chemical waste, has provided our students with a number of internships and employment opportunities. Dr. Tonks leads the internship program. The Industrial Chemistry class developed by Dr. Tonks works with Kemira to train students how to think about production, safety and profitability when designing syntheses. Friend of the College Dr. Connie Hayes, CEO of High Purity Standards in Charleston, helped judge posters at the annual SSM poster session and gave a talk about industrial careers to students in senior seminar. Alumnus Melissa (Merlau) Johnson ’97, research chemist at Dow AgroScience, spoke to students this past semester in Senior Seminar course, offering much perspective on the types of science and skills students need to succeed in a company like Dow. Alumnus Oliver Fetzer ’86, CEO of Synthetic Genomics Incorporated, is serving on the School of Science and Math’s Advisory Board.  Alumni Skip Comer ’11, Kim McDonough ’11, Sean Flanagan ’14, Brent Snyder ’14, Michele Iannantuono ’13, Susan Dukes ’12, and Nathan Casassa ’11 have all represented their companies in panel discussions about jobs in industry in Senior Seminar.  We have hosted/will be hosting visits from Cummins, Inc., Mead-Westvaco and the GEL group. If you or a representative from your company, local or otherwise, would like to tour our facilities to better connect to our programs, let us know. If you would like to use your experience in industry to serve as a mentor to a student interested in a career in industry, let us know!
